See You at the Movies

December 9 at 6:45 at the West Lafayette Library, WALLA and Friends will present the film, Millions.  It is rated PG13 and was produced in 2004.  It is the story of a seven year old boy who finds a bag of pounds days before the country switches to Euros.   As always, the movie and popcorn are free and the public is welcome.

Film To Be Shown November 11

The Lion in Winter (1968, 134 minutes, PG) features an all-star cast, including Peter O’Toole,  Anthony Hopkins, and Katharine Hepburn, who won an Oscar for her performance. The story occurs at Christmas 1183 as King Henry II plans a reunion where he is to name his successor. WALLA will present this film on Monday, November 11 at 6:45 p.m. at the West Lafayette Public Library.  As usual, the film and popcorn are free and the public is invited.

One Great Read Event, Oct. 28

Judge Tom Busch will present, "The Human Zoo; People on Display at the Columbian Exhibition," on October 28 at 7pm at the West Lafayette Public Library.  The event is sponsored jointly by WALLA and the West Lafayette Library in conjunction with this year's One Great Read.  Registration is not needed.

Classes Begin October 14

October 4 is the deadline for registering for Fall classes.  Call the WALLA office if you would like to attend but have not yet registered. (746 2006)   We hope to see many familiar and new faces joining us for classes.  Also, remember there are two luncheons you may attend with registration no later than the Thursday before the luncheons.  The dates of the luncheons are Oct, 22, (Honor Flight, One Last Mission) and October 30. (History of the Farmers Institute)  Cost for each of the box lunches if you wish to order is $9

Come See, "Cadillac Records"

The movie, Cadillac Records will be shown at the West Lafayette Public Library on October 14 at 6:45.  The film is rated R and chronicles the rise and trials of African American musicians in mid-century Chicago.  As always, the film is open to the public and is free.

Don't forget the WALLA and Friends Movie,  documentary Pink Ribbons, Inc. (2011, 97 minutes, not rated) being shown tonight,  Monday, September 9 at 6:45 p.m. at the West Lafayette Library.

Fall Class Sign Up Has Begun

Registration for Fall 2013 classes has begun.  Deadline for signing up for classes is Friday October 4.  Sixty dollars allows one to take up to 14 classes.  Check the online brochure for a listing of classes or call the WALLA office at 746 2006.

WALLA Summer Picnic

During the WALLA picnic the Fall classes will be announced and registration can occur at that time.  The picnic will be held at St Lawrence Social Hall at 19th and Meharry St, Lafayette at 5:00 pm on Aug. 22.  Cost is $10.00 and registration is required.  More information is available in the WALLA newsletter posted on this site as well as by calling the WALLA Office at 746 2006.

September Trip Details

"A Day of Indianapolis German History" will begin at 8 a.m on September 19 and return at 6p.m. Places to be visited include the Heidelberg Haus, Claus' German Sausage & Meats, Historic Atenaeum Building, Wine and Beer Tasting, and the Best Chocolate in Town.  The trip reservation deadline is Sept 6.  The trip is limited to 40 people and the cost is $35.00.   More information can be found on the newsletter section of the website or by calling the WALLA Office at 746 2006.

July 22 Free Film Open to the Public

On July 22 at the West Lafayette Library, WALLA and Friends will present the film, Made in Dagenham.  It is rated R and lasts 113 minutes.   The movie, about a strike at a British Ford plant to address sexual discrimination begins at 6:45.

Future Movie for your Calendar

WALLA & Friends will show the movie, Monty Python and the Holy Grail, (rated PG)  on June 24 at 6:45 at the West Lafayette Library.  The movie is free and open to the public.

June WALLA and Friends Movie

Join us on June 10 at the West Lafayette Library at 6:45 to enjoy the free movie Bride and Prejudice, a Bollywood-treatment of Jane Austen's novel.  It is rated PG 13 and runs 110 minutes.  The public is invited.

Annual Meeting

Spring Classes to be Announced at Burtsfield Gym

WALLA's Spring Class session will be announced at the annual pizza party on February 14 at 11:45. NOTE: This year the pizza party will be held at the Burtsfield Gym on Salisbury St and Lindberg Road in West Lafayette. Call the office for a map if directions are needed. (765 746 2006) The cost of the picnic is $9.00 and reservation and cancellation deadline is February 8. Classes start March 18 and run through April 11.

January 14 Free Movie for the Public

Wabash Area Lifetime Learning Assoc. and the West Lafayette Library will present the movie, The Best Exotic Marigold Hotel at the West Lafayette Library at 6:45 on January 14. The movie is rated PG13 and is 124 minutes in length. The movie line is about a group of British retirees who decide to “outsource” their retirement to exotic (and economical) India. Their new lives will prove to be even more of an adventure than they could have hoped. The movie is free, as well as the popcorn, and the public is invited!
