Virtual Train Trip
On January 31, 2013, at 11:30 there will be a luncheon with wine tasting, as well as a travelogue of the train trip Nancy and Carl Hartman took last year. The travelogue/luncheon, to be held at the West Lafayette Library, will include pictures and stories of the California Zephyr to San Francisco, the Coast Starlight trip to Seattle, and the Empire Builder train ride home to Lafayette. The cost is $15.00 which includes a lunch catered by Noodles & Company and Maru Sushi. Further information is available by calling the WALLA Office at 746 2006. Reservations are required.
Join Us at the Movie
December 10 at 6:45, the movie "Being Elmo" will be shown at the West Lafayette Library. Please join us for free popcorn and this free movie that delves into the life of the creator and animator of Elmo. (movie rated PG)

FALL CLASSES
Registrations for Fall classes are due by Friday October 5. If you are planning on attending classes, please see that your registration, along with the fee, is turned into the WALLA Office by that date.

Albert Nobbs, a three-time Oscar nominated film will be presented by WALLA and the West Lafayette Public Library at 6:45 at the library. The public is invited to enjoy the movie and free popcorn.

Indy Trip
WALLA is planning a trip to Indianapolis on September 25. Among the stops will be a tour of Crown Cemetery, lunch at the Eugene and Marilyn Glick Center and a motor tour of Indy Landmarks. On the way home there will be a stop at a Lebanon chocolate shop. Registration forms are now available online and in the WALLA office. Cost of the trip is $40. The trip is limited to the first thirty registrants.

Legislative Forum
The League of Women Voters of Greater Lafayette and the Wabash Area Lifetime Learning Association (WALLA) is holding an Indiana State Legislative
Candidates Forum on Wednesday, September 5 from 7 p.m, until 9 p.m. The Forum, moderated by Jeff Smith, WLFI-TV Channel l8 news anchor, will be
held in the Multi-purpose (gym) room of the Morton Community Center at 222 N. Chauncey Avenue in West Lafayette. Candidates for several Indian
General Assembly (House) Districts and two candidates for the Indiana State Senate will make short presentations and then be questioned by
audience members. Moderator Jeff Smith will pose questions submitted from the audience through the course of the evening. A sorting committee
composed of League and WALLA members will group the questions for the moderator's use. The general public is invited to participate in the forum.
Parking should be available in the Morton Community Center lot and also in the West Lafayette Public Library parking garage on Columbia St. Those entering the Morton lot should come in at the north entrance on North Street.

Picnic and Announcement of Fall Classes
August 16 at 5:00 will be the Annual Picnic, at which time the classes for the fall session will be announced. Brochures with the class information will be available. You can be among the first to sign up for the fall classes, if you attend the picnic. (Classes begin October 15.) Reserve your spot to enjoy the food, the hospitality and the announcement of classes, by turning in the flyer in the WALLA newsletter by August 9 or by calling the WALLA office (765 746 2006) to ask for a reservation form. Cost for the fried chicken meal is $9.00. The picnic will be held at St. Lawrence Catholic Church Parish Hall located at 1916 Meharry St.

Men with Brooms, will be presented at 6:45 at the West Lafayette Public Library. The movie is rated R and centers around curling. On August 13, Whip It, will be presented at the same time and place. It is rated P-13 and centers around roller-derby action. The public is invited.

June 11, Moneyball Presented and June 25, Bend it Like Beckham
The West Lafayette Library and WALLA will present two movies in the month of June at the West Lafayette Library at 6:45. Moneyball, is an academy award nominated film about putting together a winning baseball team on a budget. On June 25, Bend it Like Beckham will be shown. It is about a talented soccer player whose parents want her to focus on school. As always,the films and popcorn are free and the public is invited!

WALLA and Friends Movie
The movie, Meek's Cutoff, will be shown May 14 at 6:45 at the West Lafayette Library. It is a PG film about three families who struggle through the Oregon desert on a wagon train in 1845. As always, the movie is open to the public and is free along with the popcorn. We hope to see you there!

The trip to Louisville,Kentucky on June 5,6,and 7 has sold out and has a waiting list.
Annual Meeting
WALLA's Annnual meeting was held in Purdue's North Ballroom, May 4. Included with the business meeting was a celebration of the beginning of the 20 year anniversary of WALLA. Special guest speaker, Erika Steuterman provided insight into her air force career and WALLA member Jim Moore was presented with the Volunteer of the Year Award.

Luncheon Speaker
Rhonda Jones, director of Development and Communications, Wabash Center will be the speaker at WALLLA's luncheon at Morton Center on March 27 and 11:45. Lunch orders are $9 and must be ordered by the Thursday prior to the luncheon. You may also bring your own lunch and attend. For further information see the "Class" tab on this website and information is in the brochure.
Annual Art Show
The Fifth Annual WALLA Art Show will begin March 19 and continue until Friday April 13. Artwork will be displayed at the West Lafayette Public Library. Pieces will be accepted between March 15 and 16. All forms of original artwork, including painting, photography, drawing, pottery, textile and fabric art forms, woodwork and other media will be accepted. There will be a reception on Monday, April 9 at 6 pm before the WALLA & Friends film: Exit Through the Gift Shop.
Movie Night
Agora will be shown on March 12, at 6:45 at the West Lafayette Library. This movie is being presented in honor of Women's History Month and is the story of scientist-philosopher Hypatia, who strives to save the library of Alexandria in the fourth century.
As always, the second Monday of the month WALLA and Friends movie is free, as is the popcorn, and the public is welcome.

Sign Up for WALLA Classes..Deadline Approaching
Registration for WALLA classes has begun. Registration must be completed by Friday March 9. Interested in WALLA Classes?
If you have participated in WALLA classes before and want to experience them again, or if you have never participated, join us for the annual pizza party on February 16 at 11:45 in the Morton Center Multipurpose Room. The class listings will be presented, as well as a summary of what you can expect from each class. Brochures will be available and sign up can be accomplished on that day. Brochures may also be mailed upon request. After the pizza party, a list of classes will appear on the WALLA website. However, registration is not available online. Classes will begin on March 19.
