April 4 WALLA and Friends Film

WALLA and Friends will present the film, “The Secret in Their Eyes,” at the West Lafayette Public Library on Monday, April 4, at 6:45. This 2010 Academy Award winner is subtitled in English and is for mature audiences only. In this movie, Benjamin Esposito, retires and draws on his former court employee experience by writing a novel about an investigation into the rape and murder of a young woman. The film is free and open to the mature public.

March 29 and April 6 Luncheons

Tuesday, March 29, starting at 11:45, Stanton Lambert, Executive Director of the Wabash River Enhancement Corporation, will give a presentation on the recently completed corridor master plans for the Lafayette/West Lafayette urban section and the Tippecanoe County rural section of the Wabash River Corridor. He will also provide a brief overview of enhancement of the Wabash River corridor. This luncheon program will take place in the Morton Community Center. Luncheon cost is $9 and reservations can be made with Mary Gardner or Gail Beck until the Thursday prior to the luncheon.

Another Special Event Box Lunch will be held on Wednesday, April 6,at 11:45 at Morton Community Center. Coleen Hamrick, CASA Director,will speak about "How Advocates Assist Abused and Neglected Children.” CASA volunteers are community volunteers who are trained to speak up for the rights of children. Come learn about the needs in our community and how Tippecanoe County CASA volunteers make an impact on our community's most vulnerable children. Cost to purchase a box lunch is $9 and reservations can be made with Mary Gardner or Gail Beck until the Thursday prior to the luncheon.

Luncheon on March 24

Township Government: What It Is and Why It Matters will be presented Thursday, March 24, 2011 at 11:45 a.m. at the Morton Community Center auditorium. This presentation is co-sponsored by the League of Women Voters of Greater Lafayette with WALLA. Township structure, trustee duties and the financial picture in Tippecanoe County's thirteen townships will be discussed. The League will share conclusions and recommendations based on an eighteen-month study of township government.

This will be a brown bag lunch hour presentation. Hot drinks will be available. Free and open to the public.

Registration ends March 11. Classes are scheduled
from March 21-April 14. A sixty dollar fee reserves your spot
for up to 14 classes with registration in one class per slot.
Class offerings can be viewed on the WALLA website under
the heading "classes." Registration cannot take place online.
